Abstract | In this study, the effect of artificial seawater pH value on crack growth behaviour of E690 steel was investigated. The results showed that the crack tip pH, which was determined by the electrical potential outside the crack, first increased and then decreased when the pH of artificial seawater decreased from 8.2-3.0. And, the crack growth rate was impacted by crack tip pH, first decreasing, then increasing with a decrease of the seawater pH; the lowest growth rate occurred at seawater pH 4.0. It revealed that the crack growth rate was fundamentally affected by the potential outside the crack. |
