AbstractThe effective elastic thickness of the lithosphere is a parameter that represents the mechanical properties of the lithosphere. It reflects the characteristics of the lithospheric flexural deformation. Based on the traditional two dimensional flexural modelling, a 3-D thin plate deflection model suitable for subduction and collision zone is proposed. A 3-D effective elastic thickness inversion method based on particle swarm optimization algorithm is developed. The method is applicable to subduction collision zones with lateral differences in flexural parameters. Finally, the effective elastic thickness of the lithosphere at the Manila trench is inverted by this method. The results show that the effective elastic thickness of the lithosphere in the Central Sea basin of the South China Sea increases with the distance from the middle ridge of the ocean, and the axial bending moment of the Manila trench is piecewise on both sides of the middle ocean ridge, which indicates that the tearing of the subduction plate of the South China Sea in deep may affect the flexural shape of the shallow part.
