摘要Compact powder diffusion alloying process has been carried out on AZ91D magnesium specimens at 430 degrees C in air atmosphere. After the sole diffusion alloying process, only partially alloyed surface was obtained, and this was attributed to the incomplete diffusion alloying process. Moreover, formation of the MgO film caused weight loss of the overall specimen, and the weight loss phenomenon is also related to the initiation and growth of cracks at edges and/or corners of some specimens. Repeated diffusion alloying processes after eliminating the MgO film and adding new diffusion source allowed the Al atom diffusion process to continue. By this method, a more complete intermetallic coating was obtained. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
